Late journalist
Hassan Mayow Hassan, 35, was killed on
January 2009 near his home town of Afgoye, 30km west of
the capital Mogadishu while he was on duty as
correspondent reproter of radio Shabelle based in
Mogadishu.
Which group is behinds the killing of the
journalist, how it happened and why they kill him?
Somalia Transitional Federal Government (TFG)
soldiers led by President Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed was
responsible the killing of the journalist Hassan Mayow
Hassan. The journalist was covering a fighting that
broke in that morning between government forces and
insurgents. Government forces were defeated by the
insurgents and the government forces were not happy that
people know about the event.
The government forces captured the
journalist and asked him about his identification, and
as they realised that this is journalist and he might
report their defeat to the citizens, the soldiers took
immediately a decision to finish him. Mr Hassan Mayow
Hassan was shot three bullets on the head.
The man who killed Hassan is well known
in Afgoye, He is from Habar Gidir sub-clan of Hawiye
clan.
However, the Somali Journalist Rights
Agency (SOJRA) gathered all necessary evidence and ready
to bring to the attention of the concerned courts and
human rights organization.
The ethnic identity of Hassan Mayow
Hassan.
The journalist Hassan Mayow Hassan was
from the minority communities of Somalia known as 0.5 in
words (point five clans) and his sub-clan is Samo-Asal
known as Jarerweyne.
Therefore Hassan is the first minority
originated journalist killed January in this year for
fear of his report, and Said Tahlil was the second
reporter from minority clans of Somalia killed also in
Mogadishu February this year.
Currently, the insurgent fighting in Somalia executed
killings against Somali young boys and girls from
minority clans, and claims that they made illegal
intercourse and stone them to death.
Insurgent never stone to death to any
other person from majority clan like Hawiye, Daarood and
others.
The feeling of Somali media society for
his assassination
The brutal murder of Hassan Mayow Hassan
was the characters a violent start of the year for
Somali journalists and media professionals in across the
country.
Somalia is dangerous country for
journalists and all provinces of the country journalist

Media houses have been persistently shut
down by the authorities and reporters Somali and foreign
have been routinely kidnapped by armed militia in
Puntland region and south and central regions.
Recommendations.
The Somali Journalist Rights Agency
(SOJRA) calls for the international community and human
rights groups to make sure for their collaboration and
support to the Somali journalists and media
professionals as
Somalia continues to be a danger place
for the journalists. The journalists risk their lives to
bring the hiden story of the ongoing conflict to the
world and SOJRA is gravely concerned about the growing
violation of press freedom in Somalia particularly south
