Radio Shabelle owner is did a drastic
several cases against journalists’ rights and he is
still violating the peace making process in the
country, analytic report by SOJRA |

The Somali Journalist Rights
Agency (SOJRA) would like to make public the current and
the past activities of Mr. Abdimalik Sheikh Yusuf, who
is the owner of radio Shabelle based in Mogadishu,
Somalia.
Most of the current media houses were
established after the collapse of Somali central
government in the year 1991. As matter-of-fact, media is
one of the five figures which is taking part the
violence in the country since 1991 from the overthrow of
President Siad Barre regime.
The fact is that some media house were
created by individuals who are after the politics ad
some other who are jus open media houses to support
their clans.
As stated above, radio Shabelle is one of
the media houses were formed to support their clan
interest and was created on 2002 in lower Shabelle
region for spreading the statements and expressions for
former Transitional National Government (TNG) President
honorable Dr. Abdikasim Salad Hassan as well as the
former prominent warlord Sheikh Yusuf Mohamed Siyad, who
is now a member of the Transitional Federal Government (TFG)
cabinet ministers.
Mr. Abdimalik, was benefited and decided
to make expansion and relocated the main radio Shabelle
studio in the Somalia capital Mogadishu. He was also one
of the media owners who did not paid their employee
properly although few journalists explained SOJRA that
he didn’t give their salary while they made quarrel to
him.
It’s also widely believed domestically,
that Mr. Abdimalik Sheikh Yusuf was making sexual deal
before he employ the Somali girls who are in need of
jobs, thus few media owners like him enjoy this
opportunity regularly as well.
This caused that some female reporters
became sexual victim for their bosses as there is no
good payment and heavy unprofessional duties or even
fear of job discharge (Dismissal).
On 14th December, 2009 SOJRA
was strongly complained a speech comes out from the
Shabelle radio based in Mogadishu on 13th
this month, while Shabelle news
has said the finalized civil society meeting in Mombassa
of Kenya has finished without result. Thus that news has
no ground and it is false.
SOJRA would like to inform you that the
conference that took place in Mombassa has ended
successfully.
There were over 180 participants
including a several major media organization such as
BBC, ETN-television, Universal TV and various radio
stations that are based in Somalia and even Kenya.
Apparently there have been rumors that
were spread by few individuals who were actually present
at the conference.
SOJRA is willing to certify that the
Somali journalists and media professionals were invited
to the conference and has rolled their great role and
reporting what was going on in Mombassa and Shabelle
radio was represented for the conference by the owner of
the radio Mr. Abdimalik Sheikh Yusuf Mohamud.
Therefore, it is unlucky and
surprising that such news has heard from Shabelle news
while it has its danger from the extremist organizations
such hizbul Islam because after Shabelle unbiased news
Hizbul Islam has started to send terrorizing messages to
the participants and vowed to kill for those attended
the conference through the media.
According to the international laws this
is a criminal action against the dignity of media
society and it’s clearly shows everybody his wrong
interests apart from his financial purpose.
Anyhow, Shabelle radio is still commended
the reason was created and supported the newly radical
Islamist groups of Alshabab and Hizbul Islam because the
late Adan Hashi Ayrow, who was the creator of Alshabab
is Abdimalik’s deep family in sub-clan “Cayr” of
Habar-gidir clan similarly Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys is
his sub-clan of Cayr.
SOJRA recommendation to the media house
Journalism is a two edged weaponry!!
The knife it’s easy to use each side and
it can do trouble or grave problem against people and it
can develop people or create peace and democracy it
depends for those using it.
Finally, SOJRA is calling to all the
Somali journalists and media agencies to take care any
news that can create danger inside the Somalis and can
bring anarchy.
