SOJRA condemns Al-shabab
restrictions against Somali Journalist daily
reports. |
Mogadishu,
16 December, 2009 :: The Al-shabab
leadership in Kismaio (southern port town) of Somalia
today instructed the Somali reporters operating in
Kismaio and other area controlled by Al-shabab no to
broadcast or send to the editors or publish the news and
other event in their area without authorization from
them. Al-shabab are demanding news to come first to
their hand and then get permission for publication or
airing.
This
will only pave the way for the insurgent to continue
their violation of human rights against the Somali
citizens and humanitarian workers. Recently Al-shabab
killed with stones many young people (boys and girls) in
Somalia, claiming that they have made illegal
intercourse, or they were spying to the TFG, a move that
was widely rejected by the Somalis and the rest of
world.
Warning against
humanitarian agencies.
Alshabab also issued
warning against the humanitarian UN agencies like WFP
which was the main food sources for all Somali IDPs
throughout the country and UNDP and UNESCO.
Al-shabab issued
unrealistic statement in which they were informing WFP
to buy the maize from Somali farmers.
Each and every Somali
person knows that WFP supports the Somali farmers who
are weak to make them possible to cultivate some food,
but because of insecurity and lack of seasonal rains,
Somali farmers could not even harvest any crop that can
be used to feed the Somali IDPs. The crops harvested
some seasons could not even cover 5% of IDPs demand.
This caused
frustration to the Somali IDPs specially women, children
and elderly people, who are the most vulnerable people
in the country IDPS camps.
The Somali and non
Somali journalist and the humanitarian workers are
continuously killed, tortured, arrested and kidnapped by
the Somali Insurgents and government authorities. Only
this year 9 Somali reporters were killed, and 7 others
most of them foreign were kidnapped. About 30 cases
comprising killing, torturing, kidnapping and detaining
were recorded this year only.
Reporters forced to
flee.
About 27 reporters
were forced to flee from their duties and are now exiled
refugees in the neighboring countries mainly Kenya and
Uganda.
