A journalist was injured and his wife killed in Mogadishu , when mortars landed on his radio station south of the city

Mogadishu 21 December, 2009 :: During mortar exchange between government soldiers and insurgents three mortars landed with in minutes of each other on the building of Radio

Voice of Democracy in north Mogadishu ’s Suqba’ad neighborhood.

Abdirahman Yasin Ali, the director of the Station, VOD was injured and his wife immediately died o the spot. Abshir Abdi Ahmed, the head of the station’s reporters told SOFCA.

The attack has severely damaged the station and sent the radio off air.

A neighbor was also killed in the attack and three others injured.

“we strongly condemn untargeted shells on innocent civilians, including journalists and call for the warring sides to respect the humanity,” said Mohamed Olad Hassan , the chairman of the  Somali Foreign Correspondents Association

The journalist was on duty and his wife was waiting him somewhere at the station when the mortars started to hit.

The wounded journalist was rushed to hospital for treatment.
