Journalists under Monstrous attacks and working for a moody circumstance

Mogadishu, Somalia March 5 2010 ::  The Somali Journalist Rights Agency (SOJRA) has invested over the two months in this New Year, 2010 the situation and livelihood of Somali journalists and media outlets in across the country and documented several cases with fear and against press freedom and freedom of expression in Somalia.

What heavenly horror weather that Somali journalists faced over January and February this year and you can’t image how they were survived although some of them are victims for these glorious months.

Press freedom and freedom of expression is fundamental guiding lights of a productively of peace but Somalis are not well insiders to that especially for those behind these painful attacks and intimidations.

All regions of the country have experienced the worst press freedom violations with journalists in front of usual attacks, discriminations, harassments and intimidation. At most these acts have sent terrorizing messages to journalists.

On 10th January, 2010 was the first start time of press freedom violations in Somalia while a prominent journalist in central Somali regions injured.

A journalist Osman Aden Areys, who is a correspondent of Mogadishu based radio Simba was injured by a bullet that hit his left arm above the elbow in Beledweyne town. Osman was wounded while he was covering a fighting that was going on in Beledweyne and between two rival Islamist militias over the control of the town.

SOJRA’s monitoring and evaluation sector was surprised while unknown groups attacked radio Voice of Mudug in Galkacyo town of Mudug region on 15th January, 2010 by a hand field guns and grenades one more.

Three journalists were wounded that misfortune while their situation is now good but some materials of the radio was broken as well as one of the security men of the radio was wounded in the attack.

As the attacks and intimidations against journalists are common in Somalia radio reporter was arrested by Alshabaab on 21 February, 2010 in Wanlaweyn district of Lower shabelle region while he was transferred later at Marka-cadey town the capital of the region.

A journalist Ali Yusuf Aden who was the correspondent of Radio based in Mogadishu was reported beaten and torjured by Alshabaab in the prison according to the local society in Marka city.

The reason was arrest is a report that he was sent out on 20th February, 2010 and about Al-Shabab militias who killed a man over prayer delay in the district of Wanlaweyn.

The Somali Journalist Rights Agency (SOJRA) is worried the ongoing violations and direct attacks against Somali journalists and media house in across the country and doomed the last attack against the defenseless journalists in Somalia particularly Puntland region.

On 24th February, 2010 the chief security officer of the high court in Bossaso and other guards of the court were beaten badly a journalist Ahmed Ibrahim Nur, who was a correspondent of radio Simba based in Mogadishu during a court hearing publicly.

Authoritatively, there is no any order from the court administration and the commander decided him self to restrict the duties of the journalists who have been expecting to cover the story was going on the court at that particular day.

Somali journalists and media house are deliberately under attack day by day in Somalia by the warring sides and the policy makers as well as the Islamist insurgents who are alternatively keen on the attacks, arrests and intimidations of journalists and media outlets countrywide specifically for those are their territory.

Apart from the above mentioned dilemma, there are also few defamatory messages and articles as well as activities from some international media organizations such as the so called International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) based in Belgium and its relevant affiliate organization based in Uganda as well as European governments especially French government and no one commented it yet.

Besides, the President and the Minster of information of French government may not know what is really right as well as what is going on inside Somali journalists currently and we think that this wrong intervention which was out the diplomatic system is one from the French Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya an was based badly translation and public misusing.

SOJRA is so quite surprised what these organizations and governments are worrying and made such this malicious supports whether it’s financial and raising the voices from the desperate pretenders of press freedom activists or organizations which are also publicly and domestically failed the acting of Somali journalists and media professionals in across Somalia. Somali journalists and media professionals did fair email exchanges in public email circulation in order to let the international community what is true and what is wrong and made clearly in their messages that they cannot be fooled by their pretended sorrow.

However, French government is plying a vital role in the world politics and French political leaders have a high level profile and SOJRA is really thank it to them so they must protect the human fairness particularly Somalia.

Finally, the Somali Journalist Rights Agency (SOJRA) is kindly requesting the European government’s especially French government as well as the media organizations based in Europe continent to create and adopt a fresh democracy system which is based neutrality and justice just like what the United States of America and the media organizations based in U.S.A are doing. Because Democracy is very important method in order to boost out the freedom of expression, believe, justice and choose.
