Somalia continues to be a treacherous place for the journalists who risk their lives to bring the story of the ongoing conflict to the world 27-July, 2008

 The Somali Journalists Rights Agency (SOJRA) is gravely concerned about the growing press freedom crisis and violations in Somalia particularly in the southern city of Kismayo according to our focal-point, therefore the last month 5 journalists were fleeing in Kismayo for the sake of fear by the sides who are struggling the policy in the city.

 It was 7-June when a local journalist who had been a contributor to various news organizations including The Associated Press and the British Broadcasting Corp and also vice president Nasteh Dahir Farah shot dead in Kismayo and now other local journalists Farhan M. Nur "lafole" and Bashir Ahmed Tajir have been escaped on attacks from unknown groups so that Bashir is fleeing the city and he was reached Addis Ababa Ethiopia as exile journalist while Farhan had resigned his work of journalism to Irin-news-Somali-Service base in Nairobi, Kenya.

 "We are calling and as well as  informing the Transitional Federal Government and Islamic insurgents that it has international obligation to protect and respect journalists by allowing them to freely seek and receive information without fear of their safety said Daud Abdi Daud SOJRA's Secretary General.

 Islamist insurgents and clan gangisters are suspected in the attacks of Somali journalists in the southern city of Kismayo.
