The disputes among Somalia press freedom activists
seemingly is get out of hand |
Nairobi 14 January, 2010 ::
SOJRA, founder Mr. Daud Abdi Daud, who was also the
first executive director of the Somali Journalist Rights
Agency (SOJRA), is angrily commented the threat letter
from Mr. Omar Faruk Osman of NUSOJ and order him to stop
the cultural values that resulted years of press freedom
repression.

“It is not acceptable to commit an act of aggression
against press freedom and the goodwill of Somali
journalists as well as their rights for establishing a
new association” said Mr. Daud Abdi Daud.
Ordinarily, some one from Hawiye clan is easy to him to
organize assassination or other criminal activities
inside the south and central Somali regions and we know
that Omar is now using his brotherhood according to the
letter from him to Al-shabaab because Hassan Hanafi and
Omar Faruk are both from Hawiye clan particularly two
sub-clans residing in Hiran region so their cooperation
is based regional and ethnic ideology.Mr. Daud added.
Indeed, Somali journalists and media professionals are
hate injustice and repression from the International
Federation of Journalists (IFJ) particularly the General
Secretary of IFJ and other relevant organizations.
Over the last year of 2009 the row and infighting among
Somali journalists and media was constantly becoming
worse and the current situation of Somali journalists is
devastating one with a lot of worry because at this
point Mr. Omar Faruk Osman of NUSOJ decided to take
drastic actions against Somali journalists especially
for those against him.
“At this stage I am kindly requesting the open-minded
and well respected individuals and organizations to make
intervention particularly for those who are Somalis so
as to solve our infighting domestically” said Mr. Daud.
Mr. Daud Abdi Daud, who is highly respected and well
know press freedom activist locally and internationally
calls for the international media organizations to avoid
the supporting of Mr. Omar Faruk Osman of NUSOJ at this
season and stop all Somali media projects throughout
NUSOJ because Omar is now aiming to use it as instrument
of war against the others who are not desire his
leadership of NUSOJ.
“As Omar of NUSOJ utilizes his sub-clan gangs we can
also draw on whether they are in Somalia or out of the
country” Mr. Daud stated.
As matter-of-fact, if the international community and
Somali authorities couldn’t take an appropriate step or
action towards negotiating the two parties SOJRA is
worrying the future and solidarity of Somali journalists
in across the country as well as for those currently
living in overseas.
