RULES & REGULATIONS -
1. The Southern Oregon Junior Rodeo Association is ruled/ governed by its judges, flaggers, and directors. A more complete set if rules will be posted at the rodeo.
2. There will be a RULES Meeting with the arena Director, Flaggers, and Judges prior to each Performance.
3. IT’S THE CONTESTANTS RESPONSIBILITY TO PHONE IN (CALL BACK). NO CHANGES WILL BE MADE IN PERFORMANCE OR SLACK BECAUSE OF FAILURE TO CALL BACK.
4. Any unnecessary roughness or abuse to stock will cause the contestant to be disqualified.
5. Each contestant will be called 3 times. If not present and ready on the third call disqualification will result in that event.
6. Any abusive language from the contestant or the contestant’s family or friend will result in disqualification; not only in that event but the entire Rodeo.
7. Contestant must wear appropriate western attire including western hat or helmet, long sleeve button shirt with collar, jeans, western boots, and rodeo number on their back. **NO CHANGING OF CLOTHES BEHIND THE CHUTES.** HAT RULE- ALL CONTESTANTS MUST BEGIN THEIR COMPETITIVE RUN WITH HAT ON HEAD. INTENTIONALLY LOOSING HAT MAY RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION. JUDGES DECISION.
8. In the event a judge’s ruling is contested, this challenge must take place prior to the end of said event and can ONLY be challenged by the contestant, to the arena judge ONLY. (VIOLATION OF THIS RULE WILL CAUSE DISQUALIFCATION)
9. IT IS THE CONTESTANTS RESPONSIBILITY TO MAKE SURE THAT THE FLAGGER IS READY OR YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED. THIS MEANS FLAG IS IN THE AIR.
10. EVENTS:
A. MUTTON BUSTIN—Contestant will ride from the bucking chute. Longest timed ride wins. Must clear gate.
B. DUMMY ROPING— One age group.
C. PEE WEE BARRELS- Must be able to ride alone. Clover leaf pattern and rules to govern. 5 second penalty for knocked down barrel. \
D. JR. CALF RIDING- Loose rope provided. Longest timed ride wins. Must clear gate.
E. BREAKAWAY Roping- Two loops allowed if carrying second. 30 second time limit. Rope must drop over nose, then catch as catch can.
F. GIRLS GOAT TYING- 30 second time limit for Juniors, 30 second time limit for Intermediates, 30 second time limit for Seniors. Leather thong, piggin’ string or rope may be used. 10 second penalty if horse comes in contact, or crosses over, the goat or rope holding the goat. Flag up
G. BOYS GOAT TYING-30 second time limit. Piggin string must be used. 10 second penalty if horse comes in contact, or crosses over, the goat or rope holding the goat.
H. BARREL RACING- Clover leaf pattern will be used. 5 second penalty for each knocked down barrel. Horse may not be used twice in same age group. NO CIRCLING ALLOWED. Flag up
I. POLE BENDING- 5 second penalty for each knocked down pole. Horse may not be used twice in same age group. NO CIRCLING ALLOWED. May circle once
J. CHUTE DOGGIN- Will start from bucking chute. Can throw when steers head crosses designated line. 30 second time limit.
K. BULL RIDING- 8 second qualified ride. Contestant must provide own equipment. Mouthpiece and Vest required. Flank will be provided.
L. BAREBACK RIDING- 8 second qualified ride. Contestant must provide own equipment. Mouthpiece and Vest required. Flank will be provided.
M. SADDLE BRONC RIDING- 8 second qualified ride. Contestant must provide own association approved saddle and rein. Mouthpiece and Vest required. Flank will be provided.
N. JR STEER RIDING- 8 second qualified ride. May ride with 1 or 2 hands. Contestant must provide own equipment. Mouthpiece and Vest required. Flank will be provided.
O. JR CALF RIDING- 8 second qualified ride. May ride with 1 or 2 hands. Contestant must provide own equipment. Mouthpiece and Vest required. Flank will be provided
P. INTERMIDIATE STEER STOPPING- One loop allowed. Three legal head catches. 30 second time limit.
Q. TIE DOWN ROPING- Two loops allowed if carrying second. Catch as catch can after rope crosses over animals head. 30 second time limit.
R. TEAM ROPING- Three legal head catches. 3 loops. 30 second time limit for Intermediates and 30 second time limit for Seniors. Seniors and Intermediates can go twice, must switch ends and/or partners. Contestant’s responsibility to confirm partners before entering. Seniors must enter with another Sr. Contestant. Intermediates must enter with an Adult age 18 or over not entered in the rodeo.
S. RIBBON ROPING- NO POINTS TO ALL AROUND. 100% ENTRY FEE TO POT. Boy/Girl team. Western attire including boots, runner may wear tennis shoes. Both contestants must be entered in the rodeo. Either member may be roper. No dragging must stay facing steer. CASH PRIZE ONLY
T. JR BREAKAWAY SLED 2 loops allowed, if contestant misses on first try, sled will be stopped until contestant rebuilds and re-nods. “Hooking” or “laying” the loop on the dummy will result in no time. Time will be over when the sled reaches the end of the arena
