RULES & REGULATIONS

1. The Southern Oregon Junior Rodeo Association is ruled/ governed by its judges, flaggers, and directors. A more complete set of rules will be posted at the rodeo.
2. There will be a RULES Meeting with the arena Director, Flaggers, and Judges prior to the event.
3. Any unnecessary roughness or abuse to livestock will result in disqualification determined by the Junior Rodeo Board and judges.
4. Each contestant will be called 3 times. If not present and ready on the third call disqualification will result in that event.
5. Any abusive language from the contestant or the contestant’s family or friends will result in disqualification; not only in that event but the entire Rodeo.
6. Contestants and volunteers must wear appropriate western attire including western hat or helmet, long sleeve button shirt with collar, jeans, and western boots. Contestants must have back number on at all times during the Rodeo. **NO CHANGING OF CLOTHES BEHIND THE CHUTES** HAT RULE- ALL CONTESTANTS MUST BEGIN THEIR COMPETITIVE RUN WITH HAT ON HEAD. INTENTIONALLY LOOSING HAT MAY RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION. JUDGES DECISION.
7. In the event a judge’s ruling is contested, this challenge must take place prior to the end of said event and can ONLY be challenged by the contestant, to the arena judge ONLY. (VIOLATION OF THIS RULE WILL CAUSE DISQUALIFCATION)
8. IT IS THE CONTESTANTS RESPONSIBILITY TO MAKE SURE THAT THE JUDGES AND/OR FLAGGER ARE READY, OR YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED. THIS MEANS FLAG IS IN THE AIR.
9. EVENTS:
A. MUTTON BUSTIN—Contestant will ride from the bucking chute. Longest timed ride wins. Must clear gate.
B. DUMMY ROPING- One age group. Longest ride wins.
C. PEE WEE BARRELS- Must be able to ride alone. Clover leaf pattern and rules to govern. 5 second penalty for knocked down barrel.
D. BREAKAWAY ROPING- One Loop. 30 second time limit. Rope must drop over nose, then catch as catch can. Rope Barrier with eye backup.
E. GIRLS GOAT TYING- 30 second time limit for all age groups. Rope, leather or nylon goat string may be used.
10 second penalty if horse comes in contact with goat or rope holding the goat. One Pivot permitted. Must stay tied for 6 Seconds
F. JR.BOYS GOAT TYING - 30 second time limit. Piggin string must be used. 10 second penalty if horse comes in contact the goat or rope holding the goat. One Pivot permitted.
G. BARREL RACING - Clover leaf pattern will be used. 5 second penalty for each knocked down barrel. Horse may not be used twice in same age group. NO CIRCLING ALLOWED. No running through the gate. Contestant can have another contestant assist, with or without another horse, into gate.
H. POLE BENDING - 5 second penalty for each knocked down pole. Horse may not be used twice in same age group. One Pivot permitted.
I. CHUTE DOGGIN - Will start from bucking chute. Can throw when steers head crosses designated line. 30 second time limit.
J. JR CALF RIDING - 8 second qualified ride. Must finish ride with the same hand as the ride started, 1 or 2 handed. Contestant must provide own equipment. Mouthpiece and Vest required. Flank will be provided
K. JUINIOR/SENIOR STEER STOPPING - One loop allowed. Three legal head catches. 30 second time limit.
L. TIE DOWN ROPING - Two loops allowed if carrying second. Catch as catch can after rope crosses over animals head. 30 second time limit. Must stay tied for 6 seconds
M. TEAM ROPING - Three legal head catches. 3 loops. 30 second time limit for Senior and Junior divisions. All age groups can go twice but must switch ends and/or partners. Contestant’s responsibility to confirm partners before entering. Seniors must enter with another Sr. Contestant. Juniors must enter with an Adult age 18 or over, and not entered in the rodeo.. (Highest placing run for All-Around points) Separate points for Girl and Boy All Around. Rope Barrier with eye backup Request of draw partner will be available for Senior div. Partners are drawn from a volunteered pool of entered contestants. 3 rd draw runs do not receive all-around points. Extra draw entry must be paid in cash at check in. Paid draw runs will qualify for day money.
- SENIOR TEAM ROPING - You must verify your partner(s) before entering. If entries do not match, we will not enter you, may draw but not guaranteed a partner.
- JUNIOR TEAM ROMING – You may draw an adult, if you don’t have anyone to head/heal for you. Adults, not entered in the Rodeo can volunteer with the chute boss.
N. RIBBON ROPING - NO POINTS TO ALL AROUND. 100% ENTRY FEE TO POT. Boy/Girl team. Western attire including boots, runner may wear tennis shoes. Both contestants must be entered in the rodeo. Either member may be roper. No dragging must stay facing steer. No buckle. Day money only. Must stay in circle until head rope touches the steer.
O. GOAT UNTIE – Contestant rides to tethered goat, dismounts, and pulls ribbon from goat tail. Both hands must go up in the air, with ribbon. Timmer stops with ribbon and hands in air. Time limit of 45 Seconds
Senior Team ropers- if you are willing to be a draw partner please be sure to check the box! If you are a heeler we will likely need you ! If you dont have a partner please just put Draw in the open end. If we can't find you one your entry $ will be reimbursed for that event.
Jr. Team ropers need adults....we will have a sign up sheet, or ride in, for the Jr. Team roping! And thank you in advance
Entry forms will be returned if ALL the following do not comply:
1. Entries must be postmarked no later than Friday, (Enter Date Here). ABSOLUTLEY NO PHONE IN-ENTRIES ACCEPTED. Must have entry, and money into secretary for contestant to be entered in rodeo.
2. Entry fee in the correct amount must accompany entry form. MONEY ORDER OR CASHIER’S CHECK ONLY. NO PERSONAL CHECKS!!! Stock/Office fees will not be refunded. Absolutely no refunds after (Enter Date Here).
3. AGE: Peewee 4-6, Junior 7-10, Intermediate 11-13, Seniors 14-18, as of 1-1-17 COPY OF BIRTH CERTIFICATE OR A NOTARY MUST ACCOMPANY ENTRY FORM.
4. AWARDS- All-Around Saddle to Sr. Boy, Sr. Girl, Inter. Boy and Inter. Girl. All-Around Award to Jr Boy and Jr Girl. Reserve All-Around Awards to Senior, Intermediate, and Jr., Boy and Girl. Buckles to all 1st. place. Peewee event winners will receive an award.
5. Payback will be 100% of entry fee. Payoffs based on number of contestants per event. 1-4 contestants’ pays 1 place, 5-9 contestants pays 2 places, etc. (See chart at rodeo office).
6. All- Around will be decided on points. 1st place= 10 points and 10th place= 1 points. Must enter at least 2 events or more.
7. TIE BREAKERS- For event buckles a flip of a coin. For All-Around we will count number of 1st places on down, until tie is broken.
8. Chute draw will be used.
9. Awards and monies will be given out at the end of the Rodeo. If you cannot be present to receive your award, you may specify someone to do so for you, to a board member. All monies not picked up by contestant will be mailed. - NO EXCEPTIONS!!.
10. Jr. Age Group- Boys and girls will compete against each other in Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, Team Roping and Calf Riding but will not compete together in goat tying. Jr. boys and girls will have separate All-Around points.
